Alec Baldwin finds himself in legal turmoil once more, as a new criminal charge emerges following the tragic shooting that claimed the life of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. A New Mexico grand jury has recently indicted Baldwin on a charge of involuntary manslaughter, just 8 months after the initial charges were dropped.

The indictment stems from an accidental shooting on the set of "Rust," when Baldwin pointed a prop gun unknowingly loaded with live rounds of ammunition that was subsequently discharged. Baldwin has maintained his innocence, asserting that the shooting was a tragic accident and emphasizing that he never pulled the trigger.

This latest development comes a year after the initial charges were filed against Baldwin, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, and assistant director David Halls. Baldwin's previous legal victories, including a downgraded charge and the resignation of the special prosecutor, were followed by new special prosecutors, Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis, who reinitiated the case.

It is reported that the firearm was previously analyzed by the FBI but has since undergone further forensic examination. The new indictment is based on grand jury proceedings, with the anticipation of presenting newfound evidence. If Baldwin is found guilty, he faces a potential 18 months in prison along with a possible fine.

David Halls, the assistant director and safety coordinator for the film "Rust," entered a plea of no contest in March of 2023 to negligent use of a deadly weapon. He received an unsupervised probation term for six months, a $500 fine and 24 hours of community service. He also committed to assisting in the investigation into the shooting.

Meanwhile, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the armorer, is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence. Her trial is scheduled to commence in February, and she has entered a plea of not guilty.

As Baldwin awaits formal proceedings, including the opportunity to enter a plea, the Rust film production continues. Testimonies from witnesses, including Rust prop master Sarah Zachry, who made a deal with prosecutors, and assistant director David Halls, are anticipated to play a crucial role in the upcoming trial.
