YouTuber Jack Doherty was arrested in Fort Lauderdale and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery after police said he and a woman became involved in a physical dispute inside a home.
Fort Lauderdale police responded to a reported domestic dispute in the city’s Riverside Park neighborhood at about 11:56 a.m. Friday, September 4. Officers said preliminary information indicated that Doherty, 22, and the woman were involved in a physical altercation inside the residence.
The woman was not injured, according to police. Doherty was taken into custody and booked into the Broward County Main Jail.
A Broward County magistrate found probable cause during a Saturday morning bond hearing, set Doherty’s bond at $1,000 and ordered him to have no contact with the woman. Doherty has retained a private attorney.
Sources close to Doherty told TMZ that he acted in self-defense during the encounter. Police have released few details about what allegedly led to the dispute or the physical contact underlying the charge.
Under Florida law, battery can occur when someone intentionally touches or strikes another person against that person’s will. An injury is not required. Simple battery is generally a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in county jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
Florida law classifies battery as domestic violence when the people involved fall within the state’s definition of family or household members. Police have not publicly identified the woman or disclosed her relationship with Doherty.
The probable cause finding allows the charge to proceed at this stage and is not a determination of guilt. Prosecutors will review the evidence as the case moves forward, while Doherty’s reported self-defense claim could become part of his defense to the battery allegation.
The Fort Lauderdale arrest comes less than a year after Doherty was arrested in a separate case in Miami Beach.
Miami Beach police took him into custody in November 2025 after officers said he repeatedly refused directions to leave a roadway while filming social media content. Police reported finding amphetamine and a small amount of marijuana during a search following his arrest.
Doherty faced charges including possession of a controlled substance and resisting an officer without violence. He later entered a pretrial diversion program, and the case was dismissed after he completed the program.
The prior case did not result in a conviction.
Doherty rose to prominence through prank videos, stunts, and livestreams and has more than 15 million subscribers on YouTube, along with millions of followers on other social media platforms.
His latest arrest places the social media personality back in the Florida criminal court system months after resolving the Miami Beach prosecution. No trial date has been publicly announced in the Broward County domestic battery case.
