Louisiana Attorney General Sues Roblox Over Alleged Child Exploitation and Safety Failures

The Louisiana Attorney General has filed a lawsuit against Roblox Corporation, claiming the online gaming company failed to protect children from sexual exploitation and misled parents about the platform’s safety.
According to the petition, Roblox has long marketed itself as a safe and family-friendly service while allowing predators to contact children through direct messages, voice chat, and user-created games that include explicit sexual content. State attorneys argue that Roblox’s design enables adults to pose as minors and children to access inappropriate material without adequate safeguards.
The filing highlights a July 2025 incident in Livingston Parish, where law enforcement arrested a suspect in possession of child sexual abuse material while actively using Roblox. Authorities allege the individual used voice-altering software to lure children on the platform.
The lawsuit contends that Roblox has failed to adopt basic protections, such as reliable age verification, parental consent requirements, and effective monitoring of inappropriate content. The petition describes Roblox as designed in a way that enables predators to approach and groom young users, often moving conversations to other applications where abuse escalates.
Louisiana asserts that Roblox engaged in unfair and deceptive trade practices by assuring parents of strong protections while prioritizing user growth and profits. The complaint alleges the company reduced spending on safety features to boost engagement and revenue, despite repeated warnings from parents, advocates, and internal employees. The lawsuit also claims Roblox allowed its virtual currency, Robux, to be used by predators as a tool for coercion and exploitation.
Louisiana’s claims include violations of the state’s Unfair Trade Practices Act, negligence, public nuisance, and unjust enrichment. The petition requests a jury trial and asks the court to bar Roblox from representing the platform as safe unless substantial changes are made.
The state is seeking restitution, civil penalties, disgorgement of profits, damages, and an injunction requiring Roblox to implement stronger safety measures.
Roblox has since issued a statement on their website reiterating their commitment to making Roblox a safe and positive environment for all users.
