Mia Goth has filed for divorce from Shia LaBeouf after nearly a decade of marriage, seeking primary legal and physical custody of their four-year-old daughter and asking a Los Angeles court to deny spousal support to both actors.

The October 6, 2026, petition, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, cites irreconcilable differences and lists July 28, 2025, as the couple's separation date. Goth, 32, and LaBeouf, 40, married on October 10, 2016, and share a daughter born in March 2022. The filing comes as LaBeouf resolves a separate legal dispute with former girlfriend FKA twigs, while Goth continues to defend herself against allegations stemming from the production of MaXXXine.

Goth is requesting primary authority over major decisions affecting their daughter, along with primary physical custody, which would determine where the child principally resides. Her petition provides for visitation with LaBeouf and asks the court to terminate its authority to award spousal support to either party. Those requests remain subject to judicial review.

The actors met while filming Nymphomaniac in 2012 and married in Las Vegas four years later. Their relationship included a previous separation in 2018, followed by a reconciliation. Reports of another split emerged earlier in 2026, although the divorce petition now identifies July 2025 as the date their latest separation began.

The filing followed the resolution of a separate civil dispute between LaBeouf and musician FKA twigs, whose legal name is Tahliah Barnett. On October 5, Barnett notified the court that the parties had settled her lawsuit challenging confidentiality provisions in an earlier agreement, and she subsequently requested dismissal of the case with prejudice.

Barnett originally sued LaBeouf in 2020, accusing him of physical, sexual and emotional abuse during their relationship. The former couple settled that lawsuit in 2025, but Barnett returned to court in March 2026, alleging that LaBeouf was attempting to enforce a nondisclosure agreement that unlawfully restricted her ability to speak about her experiences.

Under the latest settlement, LaBeouf agreed that the confidentiality provisions in their 2025 agreement were "terminated and void," according to Barnett's court filing. The resolution addresses the restrictions she challenged and allows her to discuss the allegations publicly. Her original claims were resolved through settlement rather than a trial verdict.

LaBeouf also faced criminal proceedings in Louisiana following a confrontation during Mardi Gras celebrations in February 2026. In June, he pleaded guilty to three counts of simple battery and received a sentence that included two years of probation. Those proceedings are separate from both the divorce and Barnett's civil litigation.

Goth is defending herself in a pending battery lawsuit brought by actor James Hunter, who alleges she deliberately kicked him in the head while filming MaXXXine in 2023. The lawsuit, filed in 2024, also names director Ti West and production company A24 as defendants. Goth and the other defendants have denied the allegations.

The dispute continued in September 2026, when Goth sought permission to participate in her deposition remotely, citing concerns about appearing in person with Hunter. The request arose during preparations for trial, as the parties continued litigating the claims surrounding the alleged on-set incident.

Goth's divorce petition proceeds independently of those cases. California permits spouses to seek divorce based on irreconcilable differences without proving misconduct, while custody decisions are governed by the child's best interests.

LaBeouf will have an opportunity to respond to Goth's petition and address her requests concerning custody, visitation, and financial support. The court has yet to determine the final parenting arrangement or resolve the remaining terms of their divorce.
