Rapper Lil Wayne Awarded More Than $29,000 After Assault Lawsuit Is Dismissed

Rapper Lil Wayne has secured a legal victory after a California judge dismissed a lawsuit accusing the rapper of assaulting a security guard and ordered the plaintiff and his attorney to pay more than $29,000 in sanctions.

According to court documents, plaintiff Christian Carlos and his lawyer have been held jointly responsible for $29,225 in monetary sanctions, in addition to all legal fees incurred by Wayne, whose legal name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. The ruling comes months after a judge determined that Carlos repeatedly failed to comply with court-ordered discovery requirements, ultimately leading to the dismissal of the case before it could reach trial.

The lawsuit, originally filed in December 2023, stemmed from allegations that Carlos was assaulted during an incident at the rapper’s residence in Hidden Hills, California. Carlos claimed that, during the confrontation, Carter pointed a semiautomatic rifle at him in a threatening manner and struck him in the ear. The security guard alleged that the encounter left him suffering from both physical and psychological injuries, including emotional distress severe enough to require treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder.

In his complaint, Carlos sought compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, diminished earning capacity, and emotional damages. He argued that the alleged assault and battery had significantly affected his health and livelihood. Carter consistently denied the accusations and contested the claims throughout the litigation.

The case took a significant turn as discovery disputes escalated. According to the court’s ruling, Carlos repeatedly failed to comply with multiple court orders requiring him to provide evidence and documentation supporting his allegations.

In a recent order explaining the decision to dismiss the case, the judge stated that terminating sanctions were warranted because the plaintiff had willfully disregarded three separate discovery orders over the course of nearly ten months. The court also found that Carlos made affirmative misrepresentations regarding his compliance and had still not provided the required responses by April 21, 2026.

As a result, the judge dismissed the lawsuit entirely and canceled a trial that had been scheduled to begin in August. The ruling also paved the way for the rapper to seek reimbursement for expenses incurred while defending himself against the allegations.

One of Carter’s attorneys, Ashlee Difuntorum, welcomed the outcome and said the court’s decision reflected the plaintiff’s failure to support his claims with the required evidence. “Plaintiff filed this lawsuit seeking money from Mr. Carter for plaintiff’s alleged physical and emotional injuries. Mr. Carter has denied these allegations from the start and vigorously defended against them,” Difuntorum said. She added that Carlos failed to provide basic information and documents related to the alleged incident and injuries despite repeated court orders and was ultimately sanctioned for what the court described as an abuse of the discovery process.

Difuntorum also noted that Carter’s legal team is still calculating additional attorneys’ fees and costs that may be sought as part of the case.

The allegations at the center of the lawsuit were linked to an incident that allegedly occurred on Dec. 1, 2021. At the time, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed it was investigating what it described as a verbal altercation involving a security staff member and an adult male who allegedly brandished a firearm at a residence in Hidden Hills. While authorities did not publicly identify Carter by name, the statement was issued in response to inquiries specifically referencing the rapper.
