Savannah Guthrie renewed her public plea Tuesday for whoever took her mother, Nancy Guthrie, to bring her home more than seven months after the 84-year-old disappeared from her Tucson, Arizona, home.
“We just want our mom home [to] give her a proper goodbye,” Guthrie said on NBC’s “Today,” her voice breaking as she described the continuing pain facing her family.
The appeal came after actress Allison Janney used her moment backstage at the Emmy Awards to speak about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance following her win for supporting actress in a drama series for “The Diplomat.”
Janney told reporters she thinks about Savannah Guthrie and her family every day and said their ordeal remained on her mind even during the awards ceremony.
Guthrie said Tuesday that Janney’s remarks were especially meaningful because they came during the actress’s own moment of celebration.
“I never let a moment pass, if I get one, to talk about my mom and how much we miss her and love her,” Guthrie said. “We need help.”
She thanked Janney for remembering the family and giving her another opportunity to renew the appeal.
Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area outside Tucson on the evening of Jan. 31 and was reported missing Feb. 1. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate her disappearance.
Authorities released surveillance footage earlier this year showing an armed, masked person apparently tampering with a security camera outside Guthrie’s home around the time she disappeared. Investigators have asked the public for help identifying the individual.
The case later turned to ransom messages apparently sent by people claiming responsibility for the abduction.
One note claimed Guthrie was alive and demanded $4 million in cryptocurrency for her release. Another received several days later claimed she had died shortly after being taken and was “buried in nature.”
Investigators have not located Guthrie or confirmed the claim that she died.
Authorities released two of the messages publicly in July, saying their distinctive wording and writing style could help someone identify the author.
The notes also contained details about Guthrie’s home that investigators considered significant, including references to a white smartwatch near her bed and a damaged floodlight outside.
Savannah Guthrie and her family have repeatedly appealed for information since the disappearance. In February, the family offered up to $1 million for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s recovery.
The FBI is also seeking tips connected to the case as investigators continue trying to identify the person captured on surveillance footage and determine what happened after Guthrie was taken from her home.
No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not publicly identified a suspect.
More than seven months after Nancy Guthrie disappeared, the investigation remains active as her family continues asking anyone with information to help bring her home.
