Elizabeth Holmes Gave Fiancé Billy Evans Power of Attorney, Now He Controls Her Public Image and Finances

Elizabeth Holmes granted her fiancé, Billy Evans, power of attorney before entering federal prison, giving him authority over her financial affairs while he took control of her social media presence and commercial image. A new documentary reveals how extensively Evans has exercised that authority, including publishing messages through her X account and negotiating financial arrangements involving her likeness.

Evans disclosed the arrangement in You Can See Everything, released October 16, 2026, and admitted that he frequently makes decisions on Holmes' behalf without consulting her. His activities have extended to billboard advertisements promoting her innocence, negotiations over documentary profits, and an artificial intelligence version of the former Theranos chief executive.

"There's just so much trust that most things I don't really consult her on," Evans says in the film. "I know what she'd want."

Evans, who shares two children with Holmes, says he gained access to her previously dormant X account after contacting an executive at the social media company. He has since published posts and replies under her name, including messages that filmmakers Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim questioned because they appeared inconsistent with Holmes' usual public persona.

Although Evans operates the account, he claims approximately 80% of the material he posts originates from Holmes, who remains incarcerated at Federal Prison Camp Bryan in Texas. On September 27, the account announced that messages personally written by Holmes would carry her initials, "EAH," allowing followers to distinguish them from posts published by others managing the account.

Evans has also been involved in promoting Holmes' innocence through billboard advertisements in Los Angeles and New York. The documentary reveals his dealings with Ryan "Egypt" El-Hosseiny, a Miami-based entrepreneur behind billboards featuring Holmes' photograph and the message "Elizabeth Holmes Innocent."

His efforts to manage Holmes' public image extended to the documentary itself. Before filming began, Evans raised the prospect of receiving a share of the film's profits during a meeting with Fielder, Oppenheim and representatives of A24, the studio behind the production.

The negotiations occurred after Holmes left the room, according to a reconstruction featured in the documentary. Fielder says A24 reluctantly agreed to the arrangement, leaving him concerned that paying the subject's representative could compromise the film's independence.

The filmmakers later discovered that Holmes believed she had no financial interest in the production. During a subsequent conversation recreated in the film, she acknowledged knowing some details of Evans' dealings but appeared unaware of the full arrangement. Evans ultimately withdrew his request for payment.

Before Holmes reported to prison in May 2023, she also underwent a face and body scan to create an AI-generated version of herself. The digital likeness was initially intended to produce videos for her children, but Evans has since explored making the avatar available to the public.

Evans' involvement in the AI project prompted further scrutiny from the filmmakers, who questioned the potential misuse of Holmes' digital image. He acknowledged that people could manipulate the likeness for purposes she might find objectionable, while suggesting that such uses would be difficult to prevent.

The authority behind Evans' activities comes from a power-of-attorney document Holmes reportedly signed and had notarized in Texas. Evans claims the arrangement allows him to "literally do anything" on her behalf, although the document has not been made public.

A power of attorney can authorize someone to manage another person's finances, negotiate contracts, and handle other specified matters. The person exercising that authority generally has a legal duty to act within the powers granted and in the interests of the individual who signed the document. The precise extent of Evans' authority, including his ability to license Holmes' image and manage her digital likeness, remains unverified.

Holmes was convicted in January 2022 on three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud for misleading investors about Theranos' blood-testing technology. She began serving her prison sentence in May 2023.

Following a judicial reduction of her sentence, Holmes is scheduled for an early prison release to a Texas halfway house in August 2027, where she will remain in federal custody. Her projected release date is February 2030.

Evans ultimately abandoned his claim to documentary profits, but the film leaves a striking account of the decisions he has made under Holmes' name while she remains behind bars, including commercial arrangements that she appeared to know only partly about.
