Jane’s Addiction and frontman Perry Farrell have formally resolved their legal dispute stemming from a highly publicized onstage altercation in 2024, bringing a definitive close to one of the most turbulent chapters in the band’s history.

According to court documents, band members of Jane’s Addiction, Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins, reached a settlement with Perry Farrell, resulting in the dismissal of their lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Monday, Dec. 22. The suit had been filed in July following an incident during the band’s reunion tour that ultimately led to its cancellation and the dissolution of the group.

The settlement follows closely on the heels of Farrell’s public apology, issued roughly a week earlier, in which he acknowledged responsibility for his conduct during the Boston performance where the altercation occurred. “I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have,” Farrell wrote at the time. “I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.”

Farrell emphasized the personal significance of the band in his life, describing Jane’s Addiction as central to his identity for decades. “The band, the songs, the patrons, and the impact that we’ve had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down,” he added. He concluded by expressing regret that the group “fell short” of delivering the experience fans expected.

In their own statement, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins confirmed that they had decided not to continue the tour following the incident. The musicians also acknowledged that some of their earlier public comments regarding Farrell’s mental health were inaccurate. “We made inaccurate statements about Perry’s mental health, which we regret,” the band said, signaling a more conciliatory tone as the legal process concluded.

The lawsuit itself had been wide-ranging. Navarro, Avery, and Perkins accused Farrell of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract. Central to the complaint was the financial fallout from the canceled tour and halted band activities, which they claimed resulted in losses exceeding $10 million. The filing also alleged that the altercation irreparably damaged the working relationship among the members, making future performances impossible.

While specific terms of the settlement have not been made public, the dismissal indicates that both sides agreed to resolve the matter privately rather than proceed to trial. Representatives for Farrell and the band did not immediately respond to requests for further comment.

The settlement appears to mark the final chapter for Jane’s Addiction as an active band. In their closing statement, the group confirmed that they would not be continuing together. “Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts,” they wrote. “We are proud of the music we created together.”

Formed in the mid-1980s, Jane’s Addiction played a pivotal role in shaping alternative rock, influencing generations of artists with their fusion of punk, metal, and art-rock sensibilities.
