Elijah Blue Allman’s wife is asking a Los Angeles judge to reject the professional fiduciary proposed in Cher’s renewed conservatorship case and appoint her instead if the court decides he needs help managing his finances.

Marieangela King Allman filed the objection Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, arguing that her husband faces no immediate financial danger while he remains in a New Hampshire psychiatric facility. King, who is representing herself, also questions whether California has authority to impose a conservatorship while Allman is being held in another state.

King says she recently abandoned divorce proceedings at Allman’s request and remains closely involved in his life. She argues that their continued marriage and intertwined finances should weigh in her favor if the court ultimately determines that a conservator is necessary.

A financial conservatorship gives a court-appointed person authority to manage another person’s money and property when that person cannot adequately do so alone. California law does not automatically give that authority to a spouse. The judge must consider the proposed conservatee’s best interests and preferences, although a spouse receives priority over several other relatives when potential conservators are otherwise considered equally qualified.

King argues that Allman strongly opposed Cher’s earlier attempt to place his finances under court supervision and would also object to a professional fiduciary selected through his mother’s current petition. She claims the arrangement could further restrict his autonomy and interfere with his recovery.

Cher is not currently asking to manage her son’s finances herself. Her renewed petition seeks the appointment of a professional fiduciary after she alleged that Allman’s mental health, substance abuse and financial problems had deteriorated. A judge declined to impose an emergency conservatorship in April, finding that Cher had not shown sufficient urgency at the time.

The family dispute has also expanded into New Hampshire. King says Allman’s half-brothers, Devon Allman and Chaz Bono, sought guardianship over him there without notifying her and received an appointment subject to the posting of a bond.

According to King’s filing, she learned about the guardianship after the order had been entered and traveled to New Hampshire to challenge it. She says an attorney for the state hospital told her that the failure to notify her was an error. The proceeding was subsequently placed on hold so she could be heard.

King is also challenging whether California remains the proper state for the conservatorship case. Cher’s attorneys maintain that Allman remains legally domiciled in California despite his current confinement in New Hampshire, while King argues that he no longer has sufficient ties to the state.

Cher revived the conservatorship case in April after Allman was arrested twice in New Hampshire. The arrests included allegations of trespassing and assault at a school and a later incident in which police said they found him inside a home after responding to a reported break-in. The criminal cases are separate from the conservatorship proceeding.

Cher first sought a conservatorship over Allman’s finances in 2023, citing concerns about his mental health and substance use. The petition was withdrawn in 2024 after mother and son reached a private agreement. Cher returned to court earlier this year, alleging that his condition and finances had again deteriorated.

The next hearing in the Los Angeles conservatorship case is scheduled for Sept. 1.
