Two years after her high-profile civil trial captured widespread public attention, Gwyneth Paltrow has criticized the lawsuit, calling it "everything that’s wrong with our legal system." The actress made her comments during an appearance on "The World’s First Podcast: The Gwyneth Paltrow Episode," hosted by Erin and Sara Foster, where she discussed the notorious Utah ski collision lawsuit that captivated the internet.

The case arose from a 2016 incident when Paltrow was skiing at a Utah resort and collided with retired optometrist Terry Sanderson. Sanderson initially sued Paltrow for $3.1 million, alleging she crashed into him and left him severely injured. Paltrow countersued for a symbolic $1, maintaining that Sanderson was responsible for the accident. After deliberating for less than three hours, a jury sided with Paltrow in March 2023, agreeing she was not at fault.

Reflecting on the experience during the podcast, Paltrow expressed frustration over being sued despite believing she was the victim in the incident. "The idea that someone could ski into your back and knock you down and then sue you—I was like, 'This is everything that’s wrong with our legal system,'" she said. "It was ridiculous. That’s why I felt like I had to fight it. I’m not going to be shaken down here."

Throughout the trial, Paltrow faced intense media scrutiny, with her courtroom attire and demeanor becoming widely discussed topics. Despite the intense public interest, she handled the situation gracefully, notably wishing Sanderson well upon exiting the courtroom after the verdict.

Following her legal victory, Paltrow issued a statement emphasizing her integrity: "I felt that acquiescing to a false claim compromised my integrity. I am pleased with the outcome and appreciate all of the hard work of Judge Holmberg and the jury, and thank them for their thoughtfulness in handling this case."

The trial's notoriety highlighted issues surrounding celebrity court cases, media attention, and public perceptions of the legal system, themes Paltrow addressed candidly during her recent interview.
