Kim Zolciak’s Son KJ Biermann Released as Prosecutors Seek Interviews With Additional Minors

Kim Zolciak’s 15-year-old son, Kroy “KJ” Biermann Jr., has been released from juvenile detention as Fulton County prosecutors seek court-ordered forensic interviews with additional minors in his criminal case.

Biermann spent more than a month in custody following his August 17 arrest and is now living at his mother’s Alpharetta home. His release comes days after prosecutors filed two emergency motions, one seeking interviews with unidentified minors and another asking for a hearing to modify his bond conditions.

In the September 17 filing, prosecutors told Fulton County Superior Court Judge Melynee Leftridge they have a “good faith basis for concern regarding additional minors” who require forensic interviews related to the case. The filing does not identify the children, say how many are involved, or describe their connection to the investigation.

The state also asked Leftridge to privately review explicit video evidence and hear certain information from attorneys outside the public courtroom. Prosecutors said the material relates to potential victims and should be considered under seal.

Forensic interviews are structured conversations conducted by trained professionals when children may have information about alleged abuse or other crimes. They are designed to gather a child’s account in a controlled setting while reducing repeated questioning that could affect the child or later testimony.

Leftridge granted Biermann a $200,000 bond with extensive restrictions on September 11. He must remain at his mother’s home under electronic monitoring, attend school virtually, and stay away from the alleged victim and children 16 and younger, including his younger siblings. Cellphone and social media use are also prohibited, and his passport has been surrendered.

Biermann was indicted on seven felony counts stemming largely from an alleged April 23 encounter with a female classmate at a fitness center in Alpharetta. The charges include aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment and three counts of sexual battery against a child under 16. He has denied wrongdoing.

Prosecutors previously raised Biermann’s juvenile court history during the bond proceedings and referenced video evidence involving another minor. Defense attorney Jason Sheffield disputed the state’s characterization of that earlier matter and has maintained Biermann’s innocence in the current prosecution.

Leftridge has also denied a defense request to close the courtroom to the public. She restricted media recording and photography and ordered juvenile records introduced in the case to remain under seal.

Biermann’s attorneys are separately asking Leftridge to move the prosecution from Fulton County Superior Court to juvenile court. Georgia law allows certain serious charges involving defendants between 13 and 17 to begin in Superior Court while giving judges authority to transfer qualifying cases to the juvenile system.

That request remains pending as prosecutors pursue the new interviews and seek changes to Biermann’s bond. Sheffield has said his client intends to plead not guilty, with arraignment scheduled for October 14 in Fulton County Superior Court.
