Wendy Williams' court-appointed guardian has reached a settlement in the lawsuit filed over Lifetime's controversial 2024 documentary "Where Is Wendy Williams?", closing out a legal fight that began before the two-part series even aired.

Court documents show that Sabrina Morrissey, who serves as Williams' guardian, joined with the defendants, including Lifetime and its parent company, A&E Network, in filing a joint motion to resolve the case. That filing addresses the settlement agreement itself, the attorneys' fees and costs owed to Williams' legal team, and how any settlement funds will ultimately be distributed.

The legal battle traces back to February 2024, when Morrissey first sued Lifetime, A&E Network, and other producers behind the documentary in an attempt to stop its release entirely. That effort came just days after Williams' care team publicly revealed she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, timing that added urgency to Morrissey's push to halt the rollout. Despite that initial lawsuit, the documentary aired on schedule, and Morrissey's bid to block it failed.

Morrissey returned to court that September with an amended complaint targeting the docuseries more directly, arguing it had been produced without a legally valid contract. The filing claimed Williams was in no state to consent to being filmed at the time, describing her as highly vulnerable and incapable of agreeing to participate, let alone to what the complaint characterized as being humiliated and exploited on camera. The amended suit went further, accusing A&E Network of knowingly exploiting a person who was severely impaired and incapacitated to generate significant profit from the project.

According to the complaint, the network earned millions from the documentary while Williams herself received just $82,000. Morrissey's filing sought to have all profits from the project redirected to Williams, arguing that she will require substantial financial resources to cover medical care and supervision for the remainder of her life.

The amended filing also raised pointed allegations about how the filming agreement came together, claiming producers presented Williams with a contract only after she had already been filmed while visibly disheveled, confused, and not mentally present. The suit argued that no reasonable observer who saw Williams in that condition could have concluded she was capable of consenting to either the filming itself or the agreement authorizing it.

The documentary followed roughly two years of Williams' life during a period marked by serious health decline, one that eventually led a court to place her under guardianship in 2022.

The legal fight has unfolded against the backdrop of Williams' own repeated public objections to her guardianship and to evaluations that have labeled her cognitively impaired.

In a March 2025 phone-in appearance on "The View," Williams pushed back forcefully against both her guardian and the judge overseeing her case, describing herself as a college-educated woman with a decades-long career spanning radio and television. She said she felt fundamentally misunderstood by the people managing her affairs, pointing out that they didn't share her background or identity, and insisted she needed them to step back and give her space.

Williams voiced similar frustrations throughout 2025 during other call-in appearances, including on "The Breakfast Club" and "Good Day New York," continuing to assert her independence even as the guardianship and its legal disputes remained unresolved.
